
THE WALL IS A FILM STRIP. Not a montage and not a wall of pictures: an actual strip of film taken off the reel and held up to the light, sprocket holes down both edges, rounded frames between them. We were INSIDE the film a minute ago; now we are looking at it from outside, and the audience is told without a word that the whole thing was a film. Lila. READ TOP TO BOTTOM IT IS THE FILM IN REVERSE, because the key falls back out through everything that happened: 19-5 / 19-4 / 19-3 / 19-1 / 7-6 / 7-3 / 7-2 / 7-1 / 1-24 / 1-16 / 1-14 / 1-11 / 1-7 / 1-3 / 1-1. THE CAMERA FALLS WITH THE KEY. The key holds its place in frame and stays sharp; the STRIP moves upward past it and smears. That difference is the entire reason the fall reads as fast. BUILT, NOT DRAWN. Every frame on it is a real frame of the film at full resolution, lifted and washed as though lit from behind, so the strip is exact and can be rebuilt in seconds when a frame is approved or retired. A generated strip would be a picture OF a film strip with invented frames on it, which is the one thing it must not be. The script is make_strip.py. THE WHOLE STRIP, 1400 by 9754.
